Kylin Weekly Update #7: Community
Much technological progress has been made in the last couple of months with respect to Kylin becoming a blue-chip Polkadot project. From securing a parachain slot on Kusama after several attempts to facing technical setbacks in getting onboarded to the network, the team and the community prevailed. The community was always ready to shore up with votes, $KSM, and soon enough $DOT whenever it was needed, from supporting in crowdloan for the Kusama parachain auction to voting for Proposal. When the proposal was moved to Referendum, the community supported getting this Referendum passed by securing a majority vote.
With all this support from the community, we owe it to them to act in their best interest, as the community is the bloodstream of any web3 project. We’re pleased to be hosting the first Community AMA in a while, where we hope to interact with the ever-supportive Kylin community. The core team will be available to respond to as many questions as possible the community has to ask. The best two questions will each receive $50 worth of $KYL.
There may be some exciting announcements during this upcoming AMA on interesting subjects, like the Kylin Polkadot Parachain auction and details on a forthcoming crowdloan. Also, details about the $PCHU airdrop, which is intended to incentivize the community to keep the faith and hodl their $KYL bags.
We’re on schedule to capture a snapshot of the chain’s state to record relevant addresses holding $KYL and the respective amount. This snapshot will, in turn, inform the amount of $PCHU such addresses will be entitled to. However, a number of solutions are being offered by our tech team.
First off, the current $KYL tokens are on the Ethereum chain, and $PCHU is on Kusama; hence the process of launching the airdrop will involve user interaction with a dApp, which will involve users handshaking both wallets addresses to prove ownership.
The challenge with this method is that once the snapshot is taken, it will take additional time to verify the wallet addresses before the transfer of the $PCHU token takes place. An alternative solution recently proposed by our developers is to utilize Wormhole, developed by our friends at Acala, to facilitate the whole process.
This way, the snapshot and the airdrop of the $PCHU tokens will be done simultaneously. The only downside to this process is that it will take up to 4 weeks from today to execute. The technical team hasn’t concluded on a definite path yet. The previous snapshot timeline is still in effect; we’ll have further details shortly.
Pichiu, the Canary Network of Kylin, after being onboarded to the Kusama Network, has started the production of blocks. The technical team is currently working with the Substrate Builders Program to establish development milestones to guide Kylin’s technological progress. Furthermore, the team is making progress in establishing connections and utility with other parachains in the Dotsama ecosystem.
Recently, we announced establishing a hrmp bi-channel with Karura Network, Acala’s Canary Network. This was our first of many synergistic collaborations with the rest of the Dotsama space.
We recently had a call with the listing team of AcalaSwap/KaruraSwap, and we’re excited to mention that $PCHU is on track to getting listed and also can be utilized in the payment of gas fees across the bi-channel in moving resources from both sides of the parachain. Meaning community members on Karura can get into Pichiu and vice versa, and the $PCHU token can be utilized to pay gas fees.
We’ll have more information on this in the coming days/weeks as we take care of the details with the Acala/Karura team. The team continues to explore more utility for both $KYL and $PCHU as we move further in our development roadmap.
Continuation of the DeData series from the previous week
The short answer is truth & Self-sovereignty. The long answer is, well, here it goes.
Truth brings stability, and stability, over time, leads to reliability. One problem decentralized systems aim to solve is corruption. Starting with the corruption in our legacy financial systems, decentralized solutions, inspired by blockchain technology, have grown to attack the spots and traces of corruption in other industries.
Corruption is an alteration of truth and alterations are easier with absolute control. There seems to be an infection of systems that arise from wielding absolute power; as Lord John Dalberg-Acton, a notable historian, politician, and writer wrote, “power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely”. We’ve seen the implication of corruption from authority play out in how media powerhouses disseminate information with their narratives, social applications handle their user privacy, and creator platforms manage their creators multiple times.
Data is not excluded from this slaughter. DeData, a data paradigm that strips away data power from a central source and puts it into the hands of distributed, independent, and incentivized “managers,” is a step towards keeping data true. It’s a step towards a more reliable and stable web.
With the theme of decentralization grabbing power off the hands of central authorities to foster transparency & truth, that power has to be laid to rest somewhere with someone. In this case, that’s you. Not all of that power, but the part of it that’s rightfully yours. Before Web3, nothing we owned digitally was ours — not even our money or data. With decentralized networks enforcing DeData, that’s about to change. It already is!

Upcoming Community AMA
The upcoming Community Ask Me Anything session featuring core team members of Kylin Network was featured by Polkadot Space. Mark your calendar and make it a date, come with your Kylin-relevant questions, and stand the chance of being one of the two winners that will walk away with $50 worth of $KYL tokens.
Kylin Network aims to build a cross-chain platform powering the data economy on Polkadot. It will be the data infrastructure for the future DeFi and Web 3.0 powered by Polkadot. Kylin Network will provide accurate, reliable, secure, cost-effective, and easily-coordinated data sources and data analytics.
