Kylin Network Monthly Report #2

Kylin Network
5 min readFeb 2, 2021

Dear Kylians,

The first month of 2021 was definitely exciting for the crypto space. Volatile as the market always is, it, once again, feels like a crypto renaissance as DeFi explodes and a myriad of institutional investors take unprecedented interests in Bitcoin and Ethereum as a valuable asset class.

Although Bitcoin and Ethereum keep dominating the attention span of this space, we also see the rise and market interest in Polkadot (DOT), an indication of the recognition of where the next crypto wave is going. We are glad to see we are on the right path (and we told you so)!

We are working hard to achieve the coming milestones. We know they have been top of minds and believe us when we tell you that the wait will be worth it.

The following summarizes what the Kylin team accomplished in January; despite the Holidays, we were busy!

Technical Development

  • Bump up Substrate version and ink! version
  • Fixing the issue of fetching pallet data from pure ink! contracts
  • Preparing the tutorial to run Kylin Daemon
  • Planning the next stage of Kylin Network; Data Warehouse and Analytics (querying)

POC Testnet is relatively imminent, stay tuned.

Partnership Development

PAID Network — On January 5th, PAID Network partnered with Kylin Network in driving efficiency in Kylin’s business practices through utilizing PAID Network’s DeFi-powered SMART agreements and to facilitate PAID’s SMART Agreements between data consumers and providers.

SpiderDAO — On January 14th, SpiderDAO partnered with Kylin Network. In this partnership, Kylin Network is going to supply standard oracle solutions to SpiderDAO in addition to using analytics solutions to monitor SpiderDAO sales and affiliation performance through our decentralized data infrastructure.

Bondly — On January 19th, Bondly partnered with Kylin Network in strengthening both projects’ positions in the Polkadot ecosystem and blockchain space at-large through exploring innovative and synergetic business models. We look forward to using Bondly’s technology to power the next generation of digital assets while supporting price valuation of those assets simultaneously.

As part of this partnership, Kylin and Bondly collaborated on the issuance of 100 special issue Adelaide BCCG cards, which came with some extra special privileges. These cards are currently tradable at Opensea.io and currently reprents the only way to access KYL ahead of TGE/listing.

We plan to engineer some further initiatives with Bondly in February.

Polkapets — Through January, we finished talks to become part of the Polkapets family, and we will have details on this partnership released Thursday, 4th of February.

Edgeware — On January 29th, Edgeware partnered with Kylin Network. Kylin will bring their oracle and decentralized data marketplace, as well as their analytics suite, to a new generation of DApps in Edgeware utilizing the impending EVM compatibility.

The strategic partnership will also support native oracle integrations through Edgeware’s full stack of EVM, WASM Contracts, and the underway ETH-EDG bridge.

Further partnerships — Through January, we secured 9 more partnerships that are not yet public, but the information on most of these partnerships will be released in February.

Content Contribution

  • Kylin Network: the sufficient case for solving The Oracle Problem explores 1) why the alternative asset class use case of blockchain is here to stick. 2) The time and context to begin building for this type of world are, respectively, now and on Polkadot. The article goes deep into the classic Ethereum & Oracle Problem, reviews the early history of email and the internet and how it is related to the oracle and data feeding networks we see forming today. The article also reiterates the importance of the ‘metaprotocol’, layer 0, of Substrate/Polkadot. Highly recommended.

Community Development

Quiz: While we planned to have an educational quiz run in our official TG, we were quickly overwhelmed by demand. We will instead hold this quiz through our website in February in an effort to streamline the quiz and make it fairer.
